We attended a workshop together: Women and Spirituality.<\/p>\n<p>I stumbled over my English: \"Yes,  ... inclusive church  ...so: we have wheelchair access to the churches, everyone, regardless of their disability, is welcome ...\"<\/p>\n<p>\"No\", she replied, \"I mean, how do you do that with the inclusive church?\"<\/p>\n<p>I  hesitated: \"For the hearing-impaired, there are sometimes sign language interpreters ... and for those with poor eyesight, there are also hymn books with large print. The church and social services want to actively strengthen the participation of people with disabilities or other risks of discrimination \u2013 at all levels and in all bodies, until inclusion becomes a matter of course.<\/a>.\u201c<br \/>\nAnd in the Catholic Church it is <a title=\"Inclusive Church - Kohlhammer\" href=\"https:\/\/shop.kohlhammer.de\/inklusive-kirche-978-3-17-022028-7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">similar<\/a>.<br \/>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        \n<p>\"Yes\", said Jo, \"but disabled people aren't the only ones who are discriminated against.\"<\/p>\n<p>Now I was confused:<\/p>\n<h3>What does inclusive church mean in Britain?<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><\/div><!--close column table wrapper. These people and groups are explicitly welcomed; they are not merely tolerated or occasionally visible, but are consciously addressed, emerging from silence and exclusion.<\/p>\n        <div class=\"rmwr-wrapper\" \n             data-id=\"rmwr-6a0c293f761ae\"\n             data-mode=\"normal\"\n             data-animation=\"fade\"\n             data-duration=\"300\"\n             data-smooth-scroll=\"true\"\n             data-scroll-offset=\"0\">\n            <button \n                type=\"button\"\n                class=\"read-link\" \n                id=\"readlinkrmwr-6a0c293f761ae\"\n                data-open-text=\"mehr lesen\"\n                data-close-text=\"weniger lesen\"\n                aria-expanded=\"false\"\n                aria-controls=\"readrmwr-6a0c293f761ae\"\n                aria-label=\"read more\"\n            >\n                <span class=\"rmwr-text\">read more<\/span>\n            <\/button>\n            <div \n                class=\"read_div\" \n                id=\"readrmwr-6a0c293f761ae\"\n                aria-hidden=\"true\"\n                data-animation=\"fade\"\n                data-duration=\"300\"\n                style=\"display: none;\"\n            >\n                <\/p>\n<p>This naturally includes people with physical and mental disabilities, but also people of other ethnic backgrounds. It encompasses issues such as gender, poverty, sexuality, and even people with mental health issues. Inclusive churches welcome people\u2014including and especially LGBTQIA+ people and immigrants\u2014because all people are children of God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jesus was not white.<\/strong>Many queer people go to church and are not recognised as queer people in services or elsewhere.<br \/>\nDiscrimination in the church against LGBTQIA+ or migrants or against people of colour exists and is so subtle in Germany that it is not even mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>And it doesn&#039;t just remain in the welcoming culture, but it also often results in social commitment against injustice and for social justice.<\/p>\n<p>And suddenly my perspective broadened; with it came a sense of shame. I myself am queer, but before this exchange, I hadn&#039;t realized how little the church\u2014and I, too!\u2014welcomes people, how little inclusive I myself am. Jesus' ministry was primarily with those on the edge, meeting people where they were at. Love the Lord your God and Love your neighbour as yourself... These are the two key commandments said Jesus, and he says nothing about homosexuality. Jesus' message is for everyone and God's unconditional love is for all regardless of background, and that includes sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>I have always felt strongly about issues relating to injustice and inequality.  Back in 2003 I led Faversham to be a Fairtrade again something I feel strongly about. Likewise with my work with the homeless.  These are subjects that I feel so strongly about.<\/p>\n<p>With Open Table we have a safe space for everyone regardless of their background inc sexuality, gender, age, colour, ablity\/disability, neurodiverse, etc<\/p>\n<p>We have very positive feedback from straight and gay people alike regarding Open Table, both in the local and wider community.<br \/>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n \/>\nThe queer sheep must not be queer.<br \/>\nJesus must not be Jewish, nor dark-skinned.<\/p>\n<p>I long for a space, maybe even a church,<br \/>\nwhere everyone can simply be, without masks or In many English-speaking countries\u2014such as the USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia\u2014there are similar ideas of inclusive church as in Great Britain, which are often closely linked to the desire for social equality.<\/p>\n<p>But why is inclusion important to Christians and to people with a spiritual, Christian background? And that is not our place.<\/p>\n<p>I also recognize that we do not yet live in the perfection of God's kingdom, but in a world that is moving toward that fulfillment.<\/p>\n<p>Majority dominant spaces and communities (white, straight, cis in my context) have not always been  safe for people with minoritized identities.
