That God lives within each of us
That God lives within each of us,
that every patch of earth is our home,
every human our kin and brother,
that the knowledge of this divine unity unmaskss all division -
of race, of nation, rich and poor, of creed and party as illusion and deceit:
This is the point to which we return,
when dreadful suffering or tender emotion
has opened our ears and made our hearts capable of love once more.
Hermann Hesse (1877-1962)
Welcome to “God in Everyday Life”
– a space created by Esther and Dagmar, two women from Germany reaching across borders to connect, to challenge prejudice, and to show: God's Spirit moves where it will – and it moves, it breathes across all lands and boundaries.
Prejudice is everywhere, fuelled by worldly authoritarian populism that seeps into our daily lives. That’s why we want to affirm, across all borders: the divine secret lives within each of us. God reveals themselves to us – greater than we are, present in our neighbour and within ourselves.
This site, in both English and German, invites you to reflect on your own path, your faith, and the foundations of your actions. It offers impulses for living with God in everyday life.
You’ll find pages exploring questions like:
– What does God want from me?
– Aramaic Our FatherMother
– Humour
– How can I make decisions? (Discernment of Spirits)
– Meditation
– Spirituality and Psychotherapy
– Homosexuality – no problem – and queerness – a chance
– Sexualised violence
– spiritual abuse
– etc.
(Some pages are still growing – just like we are.)
We warmly invite you to reconnect with your heart’s path – beyond language – and to open yourself to what can carry and sustain you.
Please feel free to browse, and let yourself be touched.
We look forward to your questions, feedback and suggestions!
You are a child of God
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves: Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeously talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
